Why should we study the word?

  Its not uncommon to hear the questions?

· Why do we have to do bible study?

· Is it really necessary?

Well here are a few reasons:  

· Joshua 1.8 ' Keep this book of the law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.'
Meditate means to think deeply or carefully about something and study it. What God is saying in this verse is that in order to be PROSPEROUS (meaning to flourish and to thrive in all aspects of your life) and to be SUCCESSFUL we need to carefully study and think deeply on the word of God. 

· James 1.22 also states 'But be doers of the word (obey the message), and not merely listen to it, betraying yourselves (into deception by reasoning contrary to the truth)' AMP version.

God also advises us in His word to be doers, participators and students of His word and not just listeners who listen and forget. He goes on to say in vs 25 of James 1.22 that active doers shall be blessed in his doing.

· Psalm 119.11 says 'I have stored up your word in my heart,that i might not sin against you.' To prevent us from sinning and going against God we must have the ability to store Gods word within us.

· Gods word is also alive and active (Heb 4.12). As we study the word and allow God to speak to us personally, He gives us a new interpretation of the word, a new understanding relevant for our day to day life.  

With all these reasons, how can we not take time out and read and study Gods word.
